The Currier room has a canopied queen-sized bed and cushioned window seats, colonial shutters and a cozy, unique enclosed porch off the bathroom. The McIntyre fireplace adds to the elegance of the room. Pictures from a former owner’s son’s wedding in the 1940s adorn the walls as well as paintings from the 1900s showing local sites in Newburyport. The Currier, named for the owner at the time of the WPA project, hence the hyphenated title. Currier is a common surname in the area. Our Currier was a cousin to one half of the lithographer team of Currier & Ives. Although from Newburyport, Mr. Currier was a successful Manhattan silversmith. He bought the house as a summer retreat.
